In 1946, the very first Operational Radar set at sea [in Rodney and in Sheffield] got the prefix number two [second !] and instead of it being known as the Type 79 [as it had been throughout WW2] it became known as the Type 279B. In February of 1946, the Admiralty issued a provisional Handbook for the set, which to avoid confusion was called TYPES 79B/279B. Here is the front cover of that document.
In view of the importance to the Royal Navy of this, its first operational radar, the whole of this provisional handbook has been copied into the following files so that the devotees amongst you can really get to grips with this historically important RADAR, or should we more correctly say, RDF piece of equipment.
